Date 20th August 2016
Every Yorkshire Water release at England's premier dam-release river brings boaters together to play and party, and Pennine Canoe and Rowing Club are using theirs to run a fully fledged Paddling Festival!
From 9am to 2pm the top section of the river will be open to all for Playboating, etc. From 11.30am to 3.30pm the lower section (from the second weir) will also be open to all. Park and Play entry will be at reduced rates.
From 2pm to 3.30pm Pennine will be hooking up with Silverbirch Canoes and Hou Canoes to run a Boater-X race for WW kayaks, WW canoes, WW Sit-on-Tops and SUP. Groups of four boats will race the top section of the course in heats, with the heat winners and fastest losers going through to must-see finals!
At the end of the day (from 3.30pm) competitors from throughout the UK will contest the Wild Water Classic from the foot of the Thrusscross Reservoir dam to the flats of Fewston Reservoir. This event will include an "Open Canoe" class: an opportunity for tandem pairings to blast traditional open boats all the way down the river!
Thanks to Robin Hood Watersports of Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire we will have demo fleets on hand from Waka Kayaks, Silverbirch Canoes and Tootega.
