275kg of plastic waste collected during the Great Summer Clean!

Over 65 volunteers from the West Midlands region, local businesses, volunteer groups and the Canal & River Trust helped to clean the Trent and Mersey canal of plastic waste.

Inspired by David Attenborough’s Blue Planet, we managed to collect 275.16kg of rubbish and plastic all headed to the ocean.

The army of volunteers travelling on canoes, kayaks, the Middleport workboat and a floating bike, covered a 12-mile stretch starting at Etruria and finishing at both Middleport and Lichfield Street.

It was a fantastic day raising awareness against single-use plastics, and once again thank you to everyone who volunteered for the Great Summer Clean Stoke.

The event was also covered by BBC Midlands Today, BBC Radio Stoke and The Sentinel, take a look here.
