It is often split into the two areas of Devon & Cornwall, and Wessex, Wessex being the other four counties. It has around 55 affiliated clubs. Its activities are varied with both touring and competition. Click on Go Paddling to find clubs, and to browse rivers, canals and trails.
Flat water touring
Flat water touring takes place throughout the region but rivers to highlight are the Wye and Severn, and the estuaries. Also the Kennet & Avon canal and the Gloucester and Sharpness canal.
Predominantly the rivers of Dartmoor and Exmoor, popular with clubs in the region and with paddlers travelling from further afield.
Predominantly with the coastal clubs, but with interest from other clubs and individuals.
Polo has a dedicated pitch (the Bristol Canoe Polo Pitch) in Bristol Docks with goals suspended from permanent wires across the docks. It is used regularly for training and for tournaments by local clubs. The South West Polo League runs during the winter at Millfield School with teams playing in 3 divisions. Many of those teams from the South West play in the National Leagues too.

Marathon races are held throughout the region. From the estuaries in Cornwall and Devon, to Poole Harbour in Dorset, and the river Avon and canals in Wiltshire and Gloucestershire. This region hosts the start of the Devizes to Westminster race.

Slalom has entry races at Dulverton and at Frome in Somerset, and intermediate races at the River Dart Country Park in Devon, and at Symonds Yat in Gloucestershire. Training is carried out at Symonds Yat and at Frome throughout the year.

Holne Bank repairs complete
Work to repair the river bank at the British Canoeing owned piece of land on the River Dart has been completed. Boulders to secure the bank and prevent further erosion have been put in place as well as landscaping and reseeding of the grass.
Fundraising appeal launched for urgent repairs to land at the River Dart
A fundraising campaign has been set up by British Canoeing Volunteers and the South West Regional Development team to raise funds for the land at the River Dart near to Holne Bridge.
