Nicholas Beighton

Paracanoe - Podium

Nick Beighton was part of paracanoe's Paralympic debut at the Rio Games in 2016 and has been competing at the top of the sport ever since.

The 2016 Paralympic Games is a career highlight for Beighton, who won bronze in the men's KL2 event to help Britain top the paracanoe medal table with five out of six possible medals. It was Beighton's second bronze of the season after winning his first international medal at the World Championships three months earlier.

Since then, the Shrewsbury athlete has added three European KL2 medals to his name, including silver at the 2018 European Championships in Belgrade, just 0.4 seconds behind Markus Swoboda.

Beighton switched from one water sport to another, as he moved moved across to British Canoeing in 2014 after competing para rowing for a number years including the London 2012 Paralympics coming 4th in the TAMix2x class.

Following a cancelled 2020 international ,Beighton has ambitions of reaching his second successive Paralympics at the rescheduled Tokyo 2020 Games.

Previous to his sporting career, Nick was a Captain in the Royal Engineers of the British Army. In 2009, while in Afghanistan, he stood on an explosive device and lost both of his legs.
