Laura Sugar

Paracanoe -

Laura Sugar made an instant impact in paracanoe after an incredible debut season during 2019, accumulating three international medals.

Sugar's first international competition took place in a blustery Poznan, where she won a bronze medal in women's KL3 at the European Championships despite the extremely difficult conditions. In calmer waters, she backed up a strong showing in Poznan with a silver medal at the World Cup just days later.

Sugar capped off a wonderful debut season at the 2019 World Championships in Szeged, Hungary, where she won a second silver medal of the season in the women's KL3 final.

Joining the sport through the Talent ID process, Sugar started paddling in 2018 and has won numerous domestic races during her short time in the paracanoe.

It isn't just paracanoe where the Cambridge born athlete has represented Great Britain. Sugar has also competed internationally in both hockey and para athletics, and she still coaches hockey in her spare time at a local school.

Despite a cancelled 2020 season due to Covid-19, Sugar can't wait to compete once again with the aim of improving and winning further medals on the world stage for Great Britain.
