Slalom - Podium
Adam Burgess took on his first Olympic Games as part of TeamGB at Tokyo 2020, competing in the men's C1 and producing a stunning run to take a narrow 4th place finish on his debut.
Great Britain’s first ever C1 U23 World Champion in 2015, Burgess has been growing in stature over the last few years, becoming the 2018 European Championships silver medallist and a World Cup silver medallist on his home course of Lee Valley in 2019.
2018 was also a good year for Adam, winning
silver at the European Championships in Prague. He was a regular finalist in
the World Cup series and at the World Championships in Rio, he won bronze in
the men's C1 Team event with teammates David Florence and Ryan Westley.
In 2017 Adam won his first World Cup medal, taking bronze at World Cup 3 in Markkleeberg, Germany.
Adam had a fantastic 2015 season becoming Great Britain’s first ever U23 World Champion in C1 and was a finalist at the senior World Championships.
Introduced to the sport through the Scouts, Burgess also enjoyed his first exposure to Team GB as part of Team GB’s Ambition Programme for London 2012.
Adam is the tenth member of Stafford and Stone Canoe Club to be selected to represent Great Britain at an Olympic Games, continuing the club legacy.
