Congratulations to Omega Outdoor Adventure who won the Every Person Matters Award at the 2024 Delivery Partner Conference. We know that Omega Outdoor Adventure is a small team dedicated to providing amazing adventures that are accessible, affordable and promote learning! They specialise in education through outdoor activities.
The team and I are honoured, grateful, a little stunned but absolutely chuffed to win the Every Person Matters Award! To be recognised in the awards alongside so many brilliant organisations means the world to us! We'd like to share our thanks with those who took the time to nominate us and the panel for selecting us, as well as a big congratulations to everyone who was nominated!– Judith at Omega Outdoor Adventure
I started Omega in 2018 after my final season working abroad. It is a small business created from a big dream to bring safe, progressive and accessible adventure to my hometown and was funded by working lots of different jobs whilst a couple of friends and I worked Omega sessions for free to build that dream. Skip forward through lots of learning, an awesome new venue, some wonderful local partnerships, a few amazing awards and the dreaded lockdowns and this April will be Omega's 6th birthday. I'm pleased to say we now offer a wide variety of land and water-based activities throughout the year, from school holiday camps and a kids kayak club to private events and British Canoeing awards, to an even wider variety of people.
there's loads of base line perks like document checks, company discounts and a knowledgeable support network, but the main reason would be being a part of that larger team, committing to a high standard and wearing the name with pride.
for the second year for the Committed to the Environment award and the Every Person Matters award for the first time, it honestly never crossed my mind that we'd win the latter. Especially being grouped with such an awesome company, who I know personally does amazing work and is such a well-known a role model.
It was unreal when they announced the winners at the Delivery Partner Conference, I sent the link straight to the team and they were chuffed! (We aren't all local, Millie lives in Wales, Dylan in Cheltenham, James is at University in Bristol, Jordan in Birmingham, and while Marc is local to Tamworth, he lives on a canal boat so isn't always nearby).
The more I've had time to digest it, the more it makes sense for us to be recognised in this category, as while we are committed to the environment and inspiring others to work with nature, not just through litter picks, but through upcycling projects, primitive building skills, minimum impact during venue use and plant based eating with groups. I absolutely believe my team are THE business. They are the faces, the enthusiasm, the adaptability, the patience, the understanding, the coaches and the reason that the majority of our visiting groups are returners, year after year.
By supporting my team in their personal development, encouraging them to create within Omega, recognising their individual strengths and helping them fund their professional development through training, courses and awards, I believe it allows space for them to pass that on in the form of support for our visiting groups on their own journeys. What a wonderful side effect that is.
As an example, Marc was personally named on our nomination. He is the newest member of the team and came to us from many years volunteering with the local Canoe club. He's just entering his third year with us now and over the last 2 years, I have been lucky enough to fund his Paddlesport Safety and Rescue, Paddlesport Instructor, First Aid, Safeguarding training and PPA Providership.
We also have plans to help him with his Coach award and White Water Safety over the next year or so and now he's been recognised in the British Canoeing Delivery Partner awards, I couldn't be more proud. I'm very grateful that we've built the business to a place that it can support our team in working towards the NGB qualifications they would like to pursue.
