Junior World Champion Greta Roeser has been shortlisted for SportsAid’s 2023 One-to-Watch Award after a fantastic international season in both canoe sprint and canoe marathon.
The Wey Kayak Club athlete has been revealed in the top 10 athletes for the prestigious award, after winning six medals across the year.
Greta won her world title at the junior Canoe Sprint World Championships in Auronzo, Italy, powering to gold in the women’s K1 5000m, as well as a silver medal in the mixed K1 5000m relay.
The 18-year-old also won a European title at the Canoe Marathon European Championships, winning the junior women’s short course gold, alongside two silvers in the K1 long distance and K2 long distance.
She concluded her fantastic season with another silver at the Canoe Marathon World Championships, winning K1 junior silver.

The 10 athletes have been selected from around 1,000 rising British stars, supported by SportsAid, across more than 60 different sports during 2023.
Each year, athletes are nominated by their sport’s governing body on the strength of their talent and potential, demonstrating why the One-to-Watch Award has gained such a strong reputation for identifying the best up-and-coming prospects.
