British Canoeing is pleased to announce that Alex McKeown has been appointed as the Performance Pathway Manager for Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe.
Alex comes to British Canoeing with a wealth of experience as a performance scientist and previously Programme Manager at GB Snowsport.
During her tenure at GB Snowsport, Alex oversaw the successful development of the new Ski and Snowboard Cross and Mogul programmes and built their successful performance pathway, alongside para athlete transition, which underpins the World Class Programme.
She was also responsible for building and supporting the implementation for Sports Science and Medicine across the Olympic and Paralympic World Class Programmes and leading on the delivery of research and innovation projects across the World Class Programmes.
On being appointed to the role, she said: “I am really looking forward to starting the new role at British Canoeing and the new challenge it presents.
With the launch of its new strategy earlier this year and the ongoing development of the Sprint Performance Academies, it’s an exciting time to be joining the organisation.– Alex McKeown
Chris Furber, Performance Director for Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe at British Canoeing, said:
“I am delighted that Alex will be joining the team in September. It was a really competitive recruitment process with significant interest and great candidates from across the Olympic and professional sports industries.
Alex brings with her a real tacit understanding of the ingredients required to develop athletes across a range of sports and has also shown strengths working with the communities in the sports she has worked at, to create a joined up pathway for talented athletes.– Chris Furber
“Alex understands the complexities of sports with multiple disciplines and also has experience supporting parasport athletes.
“This role is crucial to the successful delivery of our Canoe Sprint strategy and Alex joins us at a key time and will focus on the development and delivery of the Canoe Sprint Performance Academies, ensuring that we have optimal environments to prepare developing athletes for successful senior careers. She will also play a key role in supporting the sharing of knowledge and understanding within the pathway to grow all of our environments.”
Alex will start her new role with British Canoeing from 1 September.
