British Canoeing Launch Sprint Performance Academy

British Canoeing has today launched the Sprint Performance Academy, a programme designed to build a greater depth and quality of athletes in high performance training groups.

Wk4 002

The development of the Sprint Performance Academy is a key action within the Sprint Performance Strategy, primarily for athletes in the U23 age-group, helping them to gain the skills and knowledge to progress and transition onto the World Class Programme.

Clubs seeking to become a Sprint Performance Academy will be invited to apply from the middle of June 2022 with a view to implementation in, or before, October 2022. Successful clubs will enter into an agreement with British Canoeing with agreed commitments by each party.

For those clubs that are seeking to be considered as a Sprint Performance Academy, please complete this Expression of Interest Form HERE. Deadline to complete the form is 27 May 2022, with a webinar being hosted 31 May 2022.

The aim of the Sprint Performance Academy is to see athletes thriving, enjoying the performance environment, developing the skills and learning from their experiences so that they can eventually compete successfully on the international stage.

This programme document outlines the initial plan, including the expectations, requirements and the support available.

Speaking about the launch, Canoe sprint and Paracanoe Performance Director, Chris Furber, said:

“The introduction of a Sprint Performance Academy presents a significant step forward in the creation of a joined up pathway for our talented athletes.

We know there is great expertise within clubs and locations around the UK and we're excited that this opportunity enables us to tap into that and potentially provide an alternative to the national centre for developing paddlers.

– Chris Furber

“We'd welcome contact from anyone wishing to know more about the project.”
