Katie Reid will line up in the final of the women’s C1 200m after a strong heats display at the 2021 ICF Canoe Sprint Global Olympic Qualifier in Barnaul, Russia.
Having delivered some strong performances last week in Szeged, including a third place finish at the European Olympic Qualifier, Katie stormed ahead of the field alongside Georgian paddler Mariami Kerdikashvili during the first race of the day.
The pair maintained their lead with Katie coming in a close second place with a time of 53.037, under a second behind first place.
The result means the Forth paddler bypassed the semi-finals and takes her spot in Friday’s final at 8:34 UK time.
Elsewhere, Charlie Smith (Leighton Buzzard) unfortunately won’t progress through to the final of the men’s K1 1000m after a fifth place finish in the semi-finals.
In his heat, Charlie delivered a time of 3:49.48 which saw him finish fifth and a place in the semi-finals just hours later. From there, he delivered a time 12 seconds quicker but it wasn’t enough to get the top three finish needed to progress to the next round.
