My father battled through terminal cancer to complete all of the waterside series in 2020 as well as the first full day of the Devizes to Westminster. He was given 4-6 months to live yet he battled on well past 9 months and continued to paddle throughout inspiring hundreds along the way. As well as raising over£12000 for Dorothy House. What’s not inspirational about that?!

Meg Rudkin is a 72 year old lady who has been an integral part of the Kingston Kayak Club in Hull for 30 years. She is involved in pretty much everything that the club does. Her good natured attitude and no nonsense approach means that she is loved and respected by everybody.
The club has organised a kayaking summer school for 30 years delivering holiday fun for inner city children in Hull. Meg has been integral in every one of these summer schools, being involved in the administration to organising coaching rota’s and delivering the sessions. These always involve our young and aspiring coaches and Megs role in their personal development is huge.
This year’s summer school will be the last for some time as the club’s premises are going to be redeveloped. However, it was one of the most challenging with many changes to make activity Covid safe. Meg adapted and changed all that was required so that the youngsters could have some much needed fun after a wretched 18 months.
Indications are Meg is looking to continue once we’re back on site again in 2023. Her personal bonfire parties are significant events in the club calendar. She welcomes up to 60 guests from both local canoe clubs to her large garden party. The club tackled an inner city drain clean up this year recovering 250 bags of rubbish and 60 shopping trolleys! Meg inevitably played an important and valuable role on the Saturday in a canoe and on the Sunday directing the on bank support.
This lady belies her age and is a true inspiration to everybody fortunate enough to meet her.

Richard, aka Boggit, has worked tirelessly for over 40 years delivering kayak and canoeing activities for all age groups in Scouting. He has in the past few years also introduced Bell boating and stand up paddle boarding activities.
Many of today's paddlers are the result of his inspiration, dedication and encouragement. Richard is well known around the Region and beyond, and has been a member of British Canoeing for some 40 years where he has dedicated nearly all of this time to coaching.
Richard has devoted his life to voluntarily helping people to learn to paddle and without any doubt, he is a superb grassroots coach. Richard has not always had the best health, suffering from asthma, but this has never stopped his never ending enthusiasm for paddle sports.
Richard has also organised the Poacher Water Village for the last 9 Poacher International Scout Camps, where 2000 young people have the opportunity to have a go at paddling. Incredible!
He is an amazing guy who is always so motivated and out coaching most weekends throughout the year. Richard runs Kayak, Canoe, Bell boats and Paddle boarding programmes and has encouraged a number of scout leaders to become coaches in these disciplines. Richard has been an advocate of British Canoeing and has encouraged many people to join. I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this particular Award.
