In May 2021 two additional canoe sprint ‘quota’ places in the women’s K1 200m and 500m events were confirmed for British athletes to compete in the rescheduled Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The nominations process was subject to appeal.
We are grateful to all parties and in particular the athletes for engaging in the independent arbitration process and agreeing to be bound by the decision.
At a very difficult time, the athletes have shown dignity and strength of character.
We can confirm the nominated athletes are:
Women’s K1 500m - Deborah Kerr
Women’s K1 200m - Emily Lewis, subject to acceptance by the British Olympic Association
Reserve: Emma Russell
British Canoeing congratulates all three athletes. Of note Emma Russell is a young and very talented athlete with a significant future ahead of her and who alongside Deborah Kerr and Emily Lewis, we hope will spearhead British Canoeing’s success in the future.
