April Catch Up with Coaching

As restrictions ease we are delighted to see more people getting on to the water with coaching and leading taking place, as well as running British Canoeing Qualifications and Awards.

Unfortunately, for many instructors, coaches and leaders, there has been very little activity over the past year or have been unable to operate for a significant period.

We encourage you to consider yourself and the staff/volunteers you may employ/deploy in ensuring that if there is any skill fade, that you engage or provide the appropriate training and put systems in place to support getting back to delivering high quality safe paddleport activity.

Although we know many have remained active and maintained fitness levels, this may not apply to everyone and this should be considered when planning activities.

Venues that are normally used may not have been visited for some time. Carrying out checks and seeing if any changes have occurred during this period is advised, such as rock falls, etc. This may require a review and revision of risk assessments previously carried out.

Equipment may not have been used for some period. Take time to do thorough checks on any equipment being used, either provided or paddlers bringing their own.
