Applications now open for 2021-23 Paracanoe Talent Club Partnerships

British Canoeing’s England Talent Programme is pleased to announce the launch of the 2021 – 2023 Paracanoe Talent Club Partnership for flatwater racing clubs in England.

Emma Wiggs Vl2 Gold Szeged2019

Paracanoe Talent Club Partnership clubs will help establish a formal and systematic Paracanoe talent pathway in England that identifies and develops people with the skills and necessary attributes to transition to and thrive within the World Class Programme.

Collaboration between the Paracanoe clubs and the centralised programmes is key to the overall success of the sport. We want to see the strengthening of the Paracanoe talent pathway in clubs, and will support all parties to work much more closely together. The Paracanoe Talent Club Partnership will play a key role in strengthening these relationships.

The Paracanoe Talent Club Partnership has seven key ambitions which outline the purpose and direction of the programme:

Paracanoe TCP Ambitions:

•Increase the number of participants from 34 to 50 racing regularly in the Paddleability events

•Develop 6-10 classifiable athletes per year achieving <125% of Gold Medal Time across the classifications

•Establish up to 3 Paracanoe Talent Hub Club Partnership funded throughout 2021-2023 with specific Paracanoe coaching roles

•Implement our WITTP (athlete development framework) as common practice with coaches and within clubs

•Work with up to 3 coaches to establish personal development plans aligned to WITTP frameworks and ensure they possess relevant coaching qualifications

•Create a more accessible and inclusive Paracanoe club network representative of the club's local community. Ensuring more clubs connecting with their local communities, leading to a broader membership based in clubs

•Improve the collaboration and engagement between clubs locally and develop greater relationships between clubs and British Canoeing.

This programme is possible thanks to the investment and support from SportsAid’s ‘Backing The Best’ programme.  For English clubs considering an application to become involved in the programme and to learn more about the Paracanoe Talent Club Partnership, please click here.
