Earlier this week British Canoeing’s Cadi Lambert, who runs the #ShePaddles programme and former #ShePaddles ambassador Emma Kitchen appeared on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour.
Together with host Jane Garvey, they discussed the physical and mental health benefits of being on the water, the Facebook Women’s Paddling Community and the diversity of paddling disciplines.
Cadi Lambert has been running the #ShePaddles programme at British Canoeing for over three years. She said
‘It has been wonderful to see the #ShePaddles programme grow, with our fantastic #ShePaddles Ambassadors and the Women’s Paddling Community on Facebook. More recently we received Sport England funding for a Club Champion project which aims to develop more women and girls into coaching and leadership positions.
The fact that BBC Radio 4 wanted to talk to us about this is testament to the growing popularity of paddling amongst females. We‘ve seen lots of new women adding themselves to the Facebook group as a result of the show.’
