Monday 11 May
British Canoeing is pleased to provide an update on proposals for the return to paddling, following the Prime Minister’s presentation on Sunday 10 May. The easing of lockdown measures in England announced yesterday, have paved the way for paddling to start again in England from Wednesday 13 May, so long as government guidelines around social distancing are followed and the waterways authorities have opened up their waterways.
This is a fast moving situation and we have today been in discussions with the national agencies, including the Environment Agency, Canal and River Trust and Sport England. We are still awaiting the detailed guidance for sport and recreation from the government.
We plan to issue more detailed guidance before Wednesday and so we are encouraging members to stay patient for a just a few more days and not to paddle until we have released our guidance and before the restrictions are lifted on Wednesday 13 May.
This announcement relates only to the position in England and to those members of British Canoeing living in England, as decisions and guidance in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are subject to the devolved administrations within the Home Nations and the respective governing bodies.
