British Canoeing is pleased to announce the appointment of Helena Russo in a brand new role as Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Lead.
Helena will join British Canoeing having held similar roles within other national governing bodies, most recently Badminton England, where she currently works as Relationship Manager.
As British Canoeing work towards the attainment of the Advanced Equality Standard, the new role will lead on the review and implementation of British Canoeing’s equality action plan. This includes the development and delivery of programmes to promote equality, diversity and inclusion across the paddlesport community.
On her appointment, Helena said: “I am thrilled to be joining British Canoeing in this new role, and to be part of the organisation’s undertaking to create more inclusive and welcoming paddlesport settings.
“My career in sport development has demonstrated how sport and physical activity can be a powerful tool for change, and I believe that a commitment to diversity and inclusion is fundamental for sport at all levels. I’m excited to be involved with the work to take the paddlesport community forward in delivering on its inclusive agenda.”
Once in post, Helena will be working to establish an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Group to ensure the paddlesport community are part of this ongoing progress.

“Helena’s vision for the future will see the embedding of equality, diversity and inclusion within British Canoeing to ensure participants from all backgrounds, cultures and genders feel encouraged to discover, participate and progress in paddlesport.”
