In addition to the 200+ races over the weekend, the first national sprint regatta of the season also played host to an ICF Canoe Sprint International Technical Officials Course.
After receiving more than 50 applications for the course, 15 candidates were selected from 13 different European nations, including: Slovakia, Belgium, Latvia, Hungary, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Spain, Lithuania, Russia, Great Britain, Serbia, Estonia and Norway.
The four day course included theory and practical sessions in conjunction with the British Canoeing National Open Regatta on 30-31 March 2019.
Delivered by Frank Garner and Jens Karl, it covered a variety of subjects, not only the ICF statues and canoe sprint rules, but it also covered the different roles, responsibilities and the key behaviours of an official to manage different situations.
The officials were given the opportunity to take part in practical tasks throughout the weekend and were assessed by written and oral exams.
The three British attendees, as nominated by the British Canoeing Sprint Racing Committee were Phil Caisley, Sarah Edwardes and Martin Hook.
