After a significant review and rewrite in 2018, the World Class Programme Qualification Policy has been further evolved and has now been published.
The policy presents the performance standards for 2019 (and takes into account those which are relevant from 2018) for athletes to be considered for qualification to the British Canoeing World Class Programme from 1 Jan 2020.
Through its World Class Programme, UK Sport is seeking to maximise the chances of athletes winning medals at major sporting events globally, culminating every four years in success at the Olympic and Paralympic Games. This support of athletes to achieve medal success is always set in the context of the development and well‐being of the whole athlete.
The British Canoeing UK lottery funded performance programmes aim to identify, develop and support athletes to win medals on the world stage in 2019 and beyond.
In the past two years, significant investment has been made in regards to performance well-being to support our athletes and staff balance the demands of the high performance system by creating an ethical and supportive environment.
The World Class Programme Qualification Policy includes full details of the funding matrix in order to give clarity to athletes on how performances will be assessed during the 2019 international season and equally how athletes will be ranked based on the published priority order of the competitions.
Please note, this is not a team selection policy and has no connection with the prevailing British Canoeing team selection policies.
