Experts across our three Olympic and Paralympic World Class Programmes have come together to create a Mental Health Team for British Canoeing. The Team includes the Chief Medical Officer, Performance Psychology practitioners, our Performance Lifestyle Advisor and Performance Wellbeing Coach
Together the team will develop and deliver the Mental Health Strategy for British Canoeing’s World Class and Talent Programmes.
The purpose of the strategy is aligned to that of the EIS Mental Health strategy for high performance system, falling into four strands:
To raise awareness of mental health within British Canoeing’s Performance Department and Talent pathway.
To empower staff and athletes to understand their own mental health, improve their well being, and protect against triggers or stressors that have the potential to impact their mental health.
To ensure that mental health issues are addressed and managed sensitively, and if appropriate, referred on to the support services available to our staff and athletes.
To track and monitor the impact of the strategy and action plan using a variety of measures.
The Team members are available to give advice and support to World Class Programme and Talent Programme athletes who are concerned about their own or the mental health of others; if you’d like to get in touch, you can speak to team members directly in person or contact them via email – find their email addresses here.
