Held over two days at the regatta lake, the first national champions to be crowned over the weekend were Rupert Tideswell (Cambridge) and Hannah Toovey (Linlithgow) after winning the K1 Boys and Girls under 12 500m races.
In the open events, Emily Lewis (Worcester), back from last weekend’s World Championships, claimed three individual titles in the women’s open K1 1000m, 500m and 200m.
Fellow international paddler Tom Lusty (Solihull) claimed a K1 500/1000m double and finished second in the men’s open K1 200m final, with Stelian Naftanaila (Nottingham) taking victory.
Stelian also combined with junior K1 200m World and European Champion Daniel Atkins (Reading) to win the men’s Open K2 200m and 500m finals.
In the open K4 500m race Sam Glover (Falcon) and Dan Johnson (Chelmsford) joined forces with Stelian Naftanaila and Tom Lusty to claim victory.
Dan Johnson joined forces with brother Matt to finish well ahead of the field in the men’s Open and U23 K2 1000m final.
Richmond’s Arthur Leech was first across the line in the men Open and under 23 C1 1000m final, and combined with Richmond club mate Ben Phillips to win the men’s Open C2 500m ahead of Thomas Lambert and Will Thomas.
Victoria Brewer (Lincoln) and Beth Gill (Chelmsford) claimed victory in the women’s Open C2 500m final. GB juniors Alix Aitchison and Charlotte Carey (Nottingham) combined to win the women’s C2 200m final.
In the women Open and under 23 C1 200m and 500m finals, Southampton’s Emily Hewitt carried on her good form shown this season to take the two individual titles. In the men’s C1 200m final Joe Hayman-Joyce (Wey) took victory.
In the under 23’s GB paddler Stuart Bristow (Royal) claimed a double in the men’s u23 K1 1000 and 500m events.
There was also a 500m/1000m individual double for Melissa Johnson (Chelmsford), who also claimed the women’s open K2 500m title alongside Anoushka Freeman (Royal Leamington Spa).
International team mates Deborah Kerr (Scottish Performance Squad) and Rebii Simon (Elmbridge) were first and second in the women’s K1 200m under 23 final then joined forces to take victory in the women’s Open and under 23 K2 200m final.
Ben Gallacher (Scottish Performance Squad) was first across the line in the men’s under 23 K1 200m final ahead of Noah Dembele (Leaside). In the K2 200m Noah combine with Sam Glover (Falcon) to take the national title.
In the men’s under 23 K2 500m final there were more medals for Stuart Bristow (Royal) and Sam Glover (Falcon) who crossed the line in first place.
World and European junior medallists Daniel Atkins (Reading) and Philip Miles (Royal Leamington Spa) dominated the boys under 18’s category.
Junior World and European Champion Daniel Atkins added the boys under 18 K1 200m National Championship title in a time of 37.78.
Philip Miles (Royal Leamington Spa) claimed victory in the boys u18 K1 1000m and 500m, with Daniel Atkins taking the silver medal.
Dan and Philip also combined to win the boys u18 K2 1000m final and joined forces with Fred Kemp (Rading) and Andras Kereszturi (Ealing) to win the boys under 18 K4 500m finals
Reading team mates Daniel Atkins and Fred Kemp claim the boys under 18 K2 200m national title, and Philip Miles partnered Fred Kemp to cross the line first in the boys under 18 K2 500m final.
International paddler Kate Hipkins (Longridge) won the girls u18 K1 1000 and 500m finals and Zoe Clark (Royal) was victorious in the girls under 18 K1 200m final. Zoe joined sister Bea to win the girls u18 K2 200m.
International teammates Alix Aitchison and Charlotte Carey were first and second in the girls under 18 C1 500m and 1000m finals.
In the boys under 18 C1 1000m final Thomas Lambert (Lee Valley) won the national title ahead of Alex Marasa (Scottish Performance Squad), with Alex claiming the national title in the boys under 18 C1 200m.
