Congratulations to Brian Gandy who has been presented with an Outstanding Achievement Award for his tireless work within the marathon community and within his local club, Basingstoke Canal Canoe Club.
Brian first started volunteering in 1986 and has been a driving force running the Basingstoke Canal Canoe Club marathon for 25 years. Over the years he has taken on most of the roles within the Club, with multiple spells as Treasurer, Secretary, Chairman, Newsletter Editor and most recently, Membership Secretary. He has also been a volunteer coach and time keeper for the much loved monthly Hare and Hounds race too.
Alongside his more local volunteering roles, Brian also volunteered at a national level, and was Secretary and Chairman of the Marathon Racing Committee for a number of years.
Brian is one of those volunteers who quietly gets on with the job in hand. He has been very supportive of the whole club over the years and always a calm source of wisdom capable of providing wider viewpoints. His phenomenal input and time dedicated to Basingstoke Canal Canoe Club and the sport of marathon racing has certainly left an impact and legacy which will continue for years to come.
