Could you be a 2019 British Canoeing Women's Paddling Ambassador?

Wpa Facebook Post

Are you passionate about paddling? Do you enjoy giving encouragement to others and sharing your experiences? Would you like to be a part of a movement inspiring more women into paddlesport? If you are positive, active and enthusiastic you could be a perfect British Canoeing Women's Paddling Ambassador!

We are looking for ten women who want to help us to grow female participation in paddlesport through social media and their local community. It is the chance for you to share your successes, failures, top tips and awesome images. We want the reality of the sport to shine through.

We don’t mind if you’re a recreational paddler, a coach or an athlete. You could have been on the water all your life or only just caught the paddling bug. Maybe your paddling compliments all your other fantastic outdoor adventures. It would help if you’re super keen on sharing your adventures with your social media followers. Above all we are looking for people who love the sport!

What’s in it for you?

We know you don’t need extra motivation to do what you do but we like to thank our ambassadors for sharing their experiences. If you become one of our ambassadors you can expect from us:

  • Some rather cool kit! We are working with Palm Equipment to bring you some fantastic gear for both on and off the water.

  • Free entry to the ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup at Lee Valley! Our ambassador launch day will be on Saturday 15th June, at this huge event! Not only do you get free entry to watch the best slalom athletes in the world compete, you will also meet your fellow awesome ambassadors and help out with the events.

  • Giveaways - for the very best of your social media posts. We will give you a topic or event to shout about and see what fun you have with it! The best post/s get a prize!

  • Lots of big shoutouts from us! We want to share the love and raise your profile too.

  • Free entry to Paddle in the Park - one of our flagship events. A weekend of paddling fun, workshops and competition.

What do you need to do?

The most important thing about being a women’s paddling ambassador is to enjoy it! Relax, do what you always do and have fun. We just have a few asks for you to fulfill throughout the year:

  • Be the noise! One social media, YouTube or blog post a month. Shared using the hashtag #shepaddles and with @BritishCanoeing tagged into the post. Don’t be afraid to post more often on social media. The more you post the better!

  • Get the chatter going! Be active on our facebook community page: Women’s Paddling Community. You don’t need to post all the time but just popping in and answering the odd question or sharing your inspiring stories and ideas would be great.

  • Stand with us! One guest appearance during the year. This will be alongside British Canoeing, at a one of a variety of events e.g. Countryfile Live, Keswick Mountain Festival or a national discipline event. Don’t worry, we won’t make you stand up and do a talk anywhere (although you can if you want to!). We just want you to interact and enjoy the events.

  • Use your voice! One article to be provided for use in Canoe Focus and the British Canoeing website. You don’t need to be a word wizard, you can just give us the content and we will write the article if you prefer. It could be around personal experience or an advice/skills based article.

If this sounds like something you would like to be involved with, we want to hear from you!
