National Go Canoeing Week is British Canoeing’s week long celebration of all things paddlesport. Encouraging everyone to get on the water and paddle at least one mile to contribute to the 45,000 mile target for the week. This year the week runs from 26th May to 3rd June.
If being a part of this fantastic event isn’t motivation enough to get in your boat then the prizes are sure to encourage you to pick up your paddle. Top mileage prizes are up for grabs for the competitive among you and everyone is in with the chance of winning a spot prize just by registering their miles.
A spot prize could be yours simply by taking part in the week. Whether you paddle one mile or one hundred between 26th May and 3rd June, so long as you register your miles on the National Go Canoeing Week website you will be entered into the prize draw.
If you want to bag one of the top prizes you are going to have to put a bit more work in. Last year our top adult male and female winners paddled 155 and 120 miles respectively. That’s a pretty good daily average! Our top juniors weren’t far behind that total and 100 miles seems to be the barrier to break to swipe that crown.
If you are a club or organisation it’s time to get planning and rally the troops. Last year’s top club mileage was won by Essex Boys and Girls Club with 2800 miles paddled between them. Want To Canoe? ran away with the top organisation prize by getting people out on the water and paddling a whopping 3654 miles.
Finally, we are also running a photo competition throughout the week. When you register your miles you will also be able to upload a photo of you on the water. After the week we will be choosing a top photo, with the winner receiving a Go-Pro Hero 5 action camera.
During the week you will be able to log the miles you paddle on the National Go Canoeing Week website. All the miles paddled around the nation will be added up and the prizes will be announced in the weeks after the event.
Clocking up miles for National Go Canoeing Week couldn’t be easier. All you have to do is jump in a boat on your favourite bit of water and go. Paddle solo, paddle with friends, paddle a British Canoeing Challenge Route or Canoe Trail or paddle to work! If you are new to paddling we have lots of inspiration, including Starter Sessions and Guided Tours.
