British Canoeing Celebrate International Women's Day

March 8th is International Women’s Day and British Canoeing are celebrating with the launch of three new engagement projects, as part of our women’s programme.

At a successful engagement day in February, women from all spheres of paddlesport came together to discuss the barriers to more women participating and how they can be overcome. The day had a hugely positive feel to it, with some great information and ideas coming from the group.

In order to harness and continue this enthusiasm a new Women’s Paddling Community Facebook group has been created, to allow female paddlers (and those who want to become paddlers!) a space to share ideas, make new friends, meet up, swap advice and stories and discuss paddling in general.

There are also two fantastic new opportunities for those who want to influence this growth of female participation. Our Women’s Paddling Ambassadors will spread the word about the fantastic world of paddlesport, while our Women’s Engagement Advisory panel will be helping to shape how we engage and retain more women in the sport. Applications open today for both the ambassador programme and advisory panel.

Women’s Ambassador Programme

If you are passionate about paddling and giving encouragement to others and love to share your experiences on social media, then you could be perfect for our Women’s Ambassador Programme. We are looking for ten women who want to help inspire others into paddlesport through a variety of channels, including their social media and attending events alongside British Canoeing.

You can find more information on the programme and apply here.

Women’s Engagement Advisory Panel

Our engagement day highlighted just how much knowledge and insight the paddling community holds. By becoming a member of our advisory panel you can share that knowledge. The group will meet approximately 3-4 times per year with a mix of face to face and conference call meetings. If you feel you have the insight, ideas and time to help shape how we encourage more women to get into paddlesport in England then please apply for our advisory panel.

You can find more information on the panel and apply here.

Get Involved

We would also love to hear your stories of how you got involved in paddlesport and why you love it.
