Access, rivers and places to paddle. What’s the deal?
So you’ve bought a new boat and you’re super keen to get out and find places to paddle, but where to get on the water? Where to go on that maiden voyage? There is a good chance you live near a river, canal, or maybe a lake? There are 57,000km of waterways in England, but knowing whether you can actually paddle is not quite as straightforward as you may think.

PaddlePoints is a new, exciting digital mapping resource available through the Go Paddling website. By creating an account paddlers can create routes on rivers and canals, upload images and receive updates about new routes and points on their favourite waterways.
Situated on the British Canoeing Awarding Body website, the digital library provides a wealth of resources for coaches, leaders and provider within the paddle sport community, including research, blogs, podcasts, videos and e-learning.
Also on the Awarding Body website is the Coach Self-Analysis Tool, designed to assist coaches within paddle sport disciplines to make a self analysis of their current coaching and to consider opportunities for development.
The Clear Access Clear Waters website supports the campaign for fair, shared and sustainable open access on water for all.
Less than 4% of rivers across England and Wales are navigable without fear of confrontation and challenge.The Clear Access Clear Waters campaign is asking for clarity of rights over access for this generation and future generations to come.
That’s not too much to ask for, is it?
