Colleges

U Canoe is an informal youth based activity that can be delivered to a wide range of young people aged 14-25 years. For colleges, U Canoe offers a participant centred, individualised programme where young people lead the process and their outcomes for the session.

U Canoe aims to encourage new participants to the sport. This programme offers two different ways to achieve this: U Canoe Wired and U Canoe Unleashed.

FE Colleges can use U Canoe in a variety of ways to suit the needs of their students and their aims as a college. This could be:

  • Increasing participation in sport
  • Developing employability skills
  • Improving health and fitness
  • Providing a different option away from the traditional sports to engage the non-sporty

Training

British Canoeing offers an Activators course for students wishing to lead activity on the indoor kayaking machines. This three hour course enables students to set up safe activity on the machines and have the confidence to provide technical feedback to participants.

In addition, British Canoeing also offers an Activators course for Tutors in Further Education, enabling your college to run internal courses whenever they are needed. This course goes into more depth around technical support for the participants and aims to enhance the knowledge of the tutors.

Links to your local clubs and centres

British Canoeing staff are on hand to provide support to link your students to your local canoe clubs and centres ensuring that there is a sustainable exit route for those wishing to start or progress onto the water and into U Canoe Unleashed.
