Looking for a new challenge? Something to plan and prepare for? Perhaps you'd like to raise money for charity, or simply try something new and different? Great, our Go Canoeing Challenge Routes are sure to inspire you and bring out the adventurer in you!
Challenge Routes are nationally recognised journeys on waterways that we have carefully selected to provide you with unique challenges. They are designed for you to plan and complete in your own time, in your boat of choice and at your own pace.
A competitive edge
We’re a competitive bunch here at British Canoeing so to make things more interesting, anyone that completes one of our Challenge Routes can submit their completion time to us. We will recognise your efforts by sending you a certificate and displaying your time on our national leaderboards (if you chose this option at registration).
Our Challenge Routes are aimed at those who have existing canoeing experience. However some of the shorter Challenge Routes could be an ideal goal for someone new to the sport to train and prepare for.
- Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake) – 7 miles – circular route
- Windermere – 11 miles – length of the lake
- Loch Awe – 25 miles – length of the loch
- Three Lakes Challenge – 43 miles – completion of Llyd Tegid, Windermere and Loch Awe
- Trent Loop Challenge - 12 miles - a circular route on the River Trent and Nottingham and Beeston Canal
When choosing the best challenge route for you, it is important to be confident of your canoeing ability and experience. Be sure to select a route which is challenging yet achievable without putting yourself or others at unnecessary risk. We are planning to introduce more Challenge Routes in the future, so there will always be a new challenge on the horizon for you.
So what are you waiting for? Take a look at the routes, decide which one is appropriate for your ability and inspires you the most…then take on the challenge by planning your adventure!
Due to the nature of our sport challenge activities can be more or less accessible depending on water levels and other environmental factors. We are working towards gathering more information about accessibility of our activities.
