Expand Canoe Award

1 Canoe Award Min

Your Canoe Award endorses your skill, judgment and decision making when journeying. You will be confident in planning and undertaking canoe journeys on the water in winds up to and including force 3 taking place on grade 1 rivers with simple eddy lines. Your award is a sound basis for building the experience and knowledge associated with the Progressive Canoe Award.

Expand Progressive Canoe Award

Your Progressive Canoe Award endorses your ability to apply appropriate decision making skills for a safe day out canoeing on grade 2(3) rivers and large areas of open water.

2 Progressive Canoe

On open inland water, you might be up to 500m from shore and in winds up to and including force 4.  If travelling on the sea, you would be using sheltered areas, small bays and harbours with the minimal possibility of being blown offshore.  When on the sea, you will be happy operating in force 3 winds (force 2 if the wind direction is offshore). This award should be seen as a sound basis for independently building the experience and expertise associated with Advanced Canoe Award holders.

Expand Advanced Canoe Award

This award is designed to advance your canoe skills and your ability to make appropriate decisions for safe days out canoeing on rivers of grade 3(4), in open water over 500m from shore and in winds of up to and including force 5.

3 Advanced Canoe

On the sea, you will be operating along simple coastlines with easy landing throughout. As an advanced canoeist you will have extensive experience of ‘wilderness journeys’ of anything from a day trip to a multi-day expedition.  Your experience will include paddling a wide variety of rivers with different flows, volumes, gradients and a range of different open water venues.

Expand Qualification Links & Certification

Although not prerequisites, these awards provide appropriate acknowledgement of personal skills for paddlers wanting to attend Coaching & Leadership qualifications. Achieving these awards ahead of the relevant qualification will enable you to focus on the course content, rather than being concerned with your personal skills.
