1 Star Award

The British Canoeing 1 Star Award is a sheltered water award which can be taken in any craft.

It is designed to recognise the level people would typically reach after an introductory course of six hours quality water time.

Prerequisites

Candidates must be water confident, and ideally should be able to swim (this is desirable but not essential).

If candidates are under 14 the Paddlepower (Go Canoeing/Skills Building/Paddlepower) program may be more appropriate.

Certification

Candidates who successfully complete the 1 Star Assessment will receive a Star Award Pass Slip from the provider. Completed Pass Slips will need to be returned to the provider’s Home Nation Association. For providers in England these should be sent to British Canoeing, National Water Sports Centre, Adbolton Lane, Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham NG12 2LU together with the certification fee:

  • £6 for members
  • £7 for non-members

British Canoeing will then issue a 1 Star Certificate to the candidate. Providers can request Pass Slips free of charge by emailing info@britishcanoeing.org.uk
