Expand Coaching Qualifications

Overview

British Canoeing offers four levels of paddlesport coaching qualifications all of which are endorsed by the United Kingdom Coaching Certificate (UKCC). These four qualifications form the heart of the current coaching scheme

Combined with a range of supplementary modules, the four qualifications provide structure and diversity in supporting coaches’ progression. Developed primarily to meet the needs of paddlesport coaches, the four qualifications offer a variety of development options for both recreational and competition coaches.

Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Paddlesport

Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Paddlesport is the first step on the paddlesport coaching pathway, and the entry point for most paddlesport coaches.

Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Paddlesport

Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Paddlesport introduces the skills and coaching behaviours required for developing performance through progressive coaching.

Level 3 Certificate in Coaching Paddlesport

Level 3 Certificate in Coaching Paddlesport develops on the progressive coaching skills gained at Level 2 and trains the coach to plan, deliver, and review long term coaching programmes.

Level 4 Performance Paddlesport Coaching is the highest level of coaching qualification offered by the British Canoeing.

Expand Water Endorsements

Overview

British Canoeing’s Moderate Water Endorsement and Advanced Water Endorsement awards are discipline specific technical modules which have been developed to allow paddlesport coaches to expand the scope of their coaching qualifications.

The awards are designed for coaches who wish to coach progressive paddlesport coaching sessions in the discipline specific moderate water or advanced water environment respectively.

Moderate Water Endorsement

The aim of the Moderate Water Endorsement training course is to provide you with the tools to plan, deliver and review a series of progressive paddlesport coaching sessions in the discipline specific moderate water environment.

Advanced Water Endorsement

This award is designed for coaches who aspire to work in Advanced Water Environments, and is available in White Water Kayak, White Water Canoe, Open Water Canoe, Sea, and Surf.

Expand Foundation Modules

Overview

Our Foundation Modules are a series of introductory training courses aimed at giving coaches a basic understanding of selected topics. The themes for these modules are driven by current understanding in sport science and coaching, and while recommended for Level 1 and 2 Coaches are open to coaches of all levels.

Each module gives you the opportunity to develop a broad knowledge base within your coaching remit, and to access training to meet the specific needs of your paddlers.

Introducing coaches to the role of mental skills in paddlesport development and performance, this three hour module relates the area of mental skills training to coaching and paddler development.

This module has been introduced in recognition of the hundreds of thousands of young people who are instructed by British Canoeing coaches every year and the importance of providing the best support and help to meet their needs.

Outdoor Education and Paddlesport

What is coaching in the outdoors? Many definitions exist but general agreement within research and literature suggests that outdoor education is: education in the outdoors, education for the outdoors, and the use of resources outdoors to meet educational goals.

This three hour classroom-based workshop has been developed for Level 1 Coaches and Club Volunteers who have contact with Disabled members/participants.

Overview

A series of training courses aimed at developing your understanding and application of selected topic areas, our Intermediate Modules are open to any coach regardless of discipline preference.

Our Intermediate Modules serve as Continued Professional Development opportunities for coaches who wish to supplement their coaching skills with an understanding of diverse areas within sport science and coaching pedagogy. Our modules enable you to develop a broad selection of expertise or to improve your understanding of particular areas which directly benefit your paddlers.
